Hi Pam - one of my husband's relatives was named Esau at birth in 1866 and
this changed to Esau Abraham in subsequent censuses and ultimately he was
simply referred to as Abraham i.e. he dropped Esau altogether. Could Elijah
have refferred to himself by a different first name? Was he in England
during the time he appears to be missing from the censuses? i.e. did he
emigrate and then return?
I found Hannah Orpe living at 40 Hanover Street in the 1901 census and think
this may be Rose Hannah Orpe. She was a widow and one of her children was
named Elijah. I suspect you have already found this info.
Regards
