Having done a search on multimap.co.uk Water Orton is 6 miles from Drayton
Bassett which is officially in Staffordshire. I wonder if we looked at some
older maps whether Water Orton is actually ever come under Staffordshire?
It may have done.

However Water Orton to Haughton is a far distance of 37 miles which would be
a far old trek without public transport etc.

Might be worth trying to find a map of 1813 or thereabouts and seeing
whether W Orton did come under Staffordshire, mind you doesn't really help
with your Haughton enquiry.
