Subject: [STAFFORDSHIRE] Samuel Steele and Joseph Winkle

Hello,
I am looking for information on the Steele and Winkle families of Staffordshire. My definite brick walls are Samuel Steele and Joseph Winkle. They were my husband's 3rd great-grandfathers. I know of them only because they are listed on a marriage certificate and would be delighted to find a distant cousin and share information. Hope some of this is familiar to someone.
>From the marriage certificate (fathers), I have a Samuel Steele, shoemaker, born about 1790, probably living in Burslem in 1820 and Joseph Winkle, potter, born about 1790, probably living in Cobridge in 1821.
Samuel Steele, artist, born 1820, in Burslem married Ellen Winkle, born 1821 in Colbridge/ or Cobridge. According to the certificate, both were living in Cobridge at the time of marriage.
They were married 22 Nov 1840, in Hanley Chapel, Stoke Upon Trent, Staffordshire. The witnesses were Enoch Steele and Hannah Baker.
Census records indicate Enoch and Hannah were married the following year. I do not know what the relationship was between Enoch and Samuel. Enoch and Hannah are in Burslem for 1851 census with 2 children: James 4 and William 11.
Samuel and Ellen Steele went to France, possibly for Samuel to study. Their children Herbert (b. abt. 1842) and Mary Ann (b. abt 1846) were born in France.
The third child, Rose Hannah was born abt. 1849 in Burslem.
Fourth child, Samuel Henry was born 10 Oct 1851 , in Shelton, Staffordshire.
>From the 1861 census on Samuel and Ellen are in Hanley, Shelton, Stoke Upon Trent and Samuel is a potter's engraver.
Fifth child, Arthur was born 22 Dec 1859.
I have a copy of the birth registrations for Samuel Henry and Arthur.
The daughter, Mary Ann Steele was my husband's great grandmother. On 26 Dec 1872, she married William Day in Shelton, Staffordshire. He had been born in Warwickshire. William was a schoolmaster in Norton at the time of the marriage. They went to Carlisle about 1881. My husband's grandmother Madeline Bessie Day was born there in 1885. Madeline arrived in New York on 25 Oct 1913 and was met by Robert Brizell, formerly of Liverpool. Madeline and Robert were married the next day in Perth Amboy, NJ.
I have uncertain information on the other Steele siblings.
I think Herbert married a Jane Heath and they had three children. Rosa (b. 1865 in Stoke Upon Trent) and Frederick W. ( b. England 1867). Have a probable for Jane and the children going to America in 1868, arriving in NY on 24 Aug. Third child Ellen was born in PA abt. 1869.
Found a family grouping that matches this one in Pittsburg, PA in 1870 census. However, when I find Herbert Steele in 1880 Jane and the children are gone. There is a wife Mary (born in PA) and one son James, age 16. He could be Mary's from a previous.
Rose Hannah was a school mistress in 1871. I have not been able to positively identify Rose, Samuel Henry, or Arthur in subsequent census.
