Linda,
This is a difficult family to document, as James B. had several
wives/relationships, but this is what I was able to determine after
compiling the census reports.
if you review child number 7, it may (or may not) explain a few things

She was born Abt. 1795 in NC?, and died Abt. 1825 in prob Letcher co, KY.
He met (2) Miss Hatton Abt. 1825. She was born Abt. 1800. He met (3) Polly

Notes for James B. Stamper:
per Oliver Stamper (1945): James B. Stamper (William, James), farmer.: b.
December 13, 1797, either in NC or in what is now Letcher County, Kentucky.
He had five wives, two or three of whom may have been common law wives, by
all of whom he had children. 1st wife' Tamer Olson; 2nd. Rebecca Osborn;
3rd. Miss Hatton; 4th. Miss Robinson; 5th. Sallie Jones. He moved from
Letcher County to Morgan County, Kentucky, either before or at the time
his father did. Have conflicting reports about his death. according to one
report he was killed by Union soldiers January 29, 1864. His Grandson,
James H. Stamper, says he died in 1858 at West Liberty, Morgan County,
Kentucky. He is buried at or near Grassycreek Kentucky.

Oliver Stamper book adds children Matilda
Anne, Cordelia, William, and James,
plus all their spouses names.
A. Carole Bays of Dayton, OH provided a
printout that has greatly expanded this list of descendants, almost all
documented by birth, marriage, death indices, IGI, and references to Tutt's
work. When not otherwise documented, the source for the grandchildren and
their descendants will be from the records of A. Carole Bays (Nov. 1997).
A. Carol Bays also adds the three daughters,
all named Josephine (1) Tamar Josephine, b. Feb 20 1852. (Carole's remark
states that she didn't have this one listed and wondered where Tutt found
her). (2) Lana Josephine b. Feb 10 1852, d. Dec 27 1934 Wolfe Co. (3)
Josephine b. Feb 20, 1852, Wolfe, md George Washington Ingram, and lists 1
child and 5 granchildren.
Obviously there is some room for error here.
The first and thrid Josephine have the same exact birthdate, and may be the
same individual. The second, Lana Josephine's birth date is off by 10 days,
shows no marriage, but does give a death date. Certainly would not have
been Josephine Tutt at death if she married. Do we have a set of twins (or
even tripplets here)? Or just a single individual? I will list them
exactly as they were presented in the document and let someone else sort it
out.
