Subject: [UK-Burbage] Just another Jackman Question - ???
Date: Wed, 8 Oct 2003 16:32:05 -0400
Just thought I would ask you well read members if anyone of you have every seen anything about this information that was taken from a short history blurb (can't remember where I got it) about the name Jackman. Just curious is all, can't seem to dig up anything on that Edward guy? I know I know I ask too many questions...
"Nevertheless, the English family name, Jackman, emerged as an influential name in the county of Essex where they were recorded as a family of great antiquity seated at Hornchurch where they were Lords of the manor and estates in that shire. They later branched to Huntingdon, Buckingham, Devon, and north to Durham and west to Herefordshire. Edward Jackman was Sheriff of London in 1564 being descended from the Hornchurch branch? of the family. They flourished on their estates for several centuries, intermarrying with other distinguished families of the area. Notable amongst the family at this time was Edward Jackman, Sheriff of London."
