Hello Susan

I have seen it written that up to about 1500 wills were usually written in
Latin or sometimes in French (a throwback to our Norman ancestry).
Thereafter they were normally written in English with the record of probate
remaining in Latin until the mid eighteenth century.

If the change from French/Latin to English was by practise and not by law
then maybe some continued with the old tradition or maybe they simply used
a 250 year old lawyer who was set in his ways.
