Susan,
I had the opportunity this morning to look at microfilm of the Burbage
parish records and can clear up one thing for you.
The baptism entry for baby Charles includes the information that he was
born on February 23, 1834. And across the two blocks that normally contain
both parents' forenames followed by a single surname is written:
Charles Jackman
&
Harriet Hillier
That would indicate to me that Charles and Harriet were not married at
the time of the baptism. The child must have been baptised as Charles
Hillier, however, as the subsequent burial entry (which I also looked at)
gives that name. Unfortunately, there was no additional information on the
the burial entry (like "son of ....").
