I think the following message was meant for the general list. Please
contact David if you have any comments. BTW the web site has fixed the
problem of the missing age figures in the 1841 census, 2 new surnames have
been added and there are some excellent new pictures of the old race horse
training stable in Westcourt. The NEW page has all of the details and links.

Subject: Thomas Phillip Hope.
Hi all. I know that several of us are descended from Sarah Hope, and
although there is no proof it is generally thought that the father of her
several children is Thomas Noyes. I then began wondering if Sarah is
actually nee Tarrant or whether she might be a daughter of Thomas Hope
that came with him from Folkestone. ? I've just rediscovered a note I made
some years ago but forgot about when work became too busy, which needs
checking out. Anyone living in Kent ??!!
It is this:-
A thomas Hope, son of Robert & Sarah Hope was born 1741 in Kent. He
married a Dorcas or Mary Walter 1763 in Rainham Kent and had a daughter
christened Sarah in 1764, who must have died as he had another christened
1767. It is just possible that Thomas Hope and daughter Sarah appeared in
Burbage in the early 1790's , Thomas ( a widower, from Folkestone, Kent)
marrying Sarah Tarrant, giving two Sarah Hopes !!! This would give the
possibility of the daughter Sarah being our ancestor, not Sarah
Tarrant. Needs a lot of checking of deaths etc. in the Kent area that I
never got around to. This would also make sense of the burial in 1819 of
Sarah, wife of Thomas Phillip Hope, to differentiate her from the
daughter, Sarah who might still have been alive. ! If the Burial was that
of the mother of the illegitmate children, then it sounds like a rather
clumsy dig at her! (No pun intended !)
Anyone able toadd to this theory ?
