Dear Colin
I must congratulate you on the most useful and interesting site.
I have been searching for my great grandmother for some time and have
today pretty much found her in Burbage.
She appeared in family and national records as Charlotte Skitwell or
possibly Skitnell.
Using birth and death certificates and the census records I established
that she was born in 'Berbridge' (sic) Wiltshire around 1867-70.
Berbridge must of course have been Burbage and up she pops in your 1881
census as Charlotte Skiterall, Sunday School teacher (albeit a pretty
young one!)
But from there I am asking if you could please give me a bit of
assistance. It is not clear who is her father, which of the David
Skiteralls?
I also note that there is a record of Charlotte Skittral (sic) marrying
in 1888 (aged 21). Could this be her?
My great grandmother moved to London where she had a daughter (my
grandmother). For the birty of her daughter, she registered as Charlotte
Gossick (formerly Skitwell), so she either remarried or more probably
just lived with her new 'husband'.
I would be most interested to be put in touch with anyone else
interesting in the Skitteralls of Burbage. Charlotte begat Ivy Gossick,
who married Thomas Mooney and in turn begat 10 children - a large tribe
of well educated Mooney's.
Kind Regards
Brian
