Perhaps you mean St. Catharines Ontario? There are Sutherland's in that area
in the time period in question. References include:

Subject: [UPP-CAN] Location help - St. Calhouns?


Looking for information on a place called St. Calhouns - possibly in
Ontario? There was a reference to a Charles H. Sutherland having been born
there, but when I looked on the Ontario locator, I came up empty. Anyone
heard of such a location or what possibly an alternative mistaken location
might be? Charles H. Sutherland was supposedly born there in 1854 but by
1876 he is married in Michigan.
