Hello,
Would anyone know which newspapers might cover deaths in Carleton in the 1840s and 1850s. I do know that usually the prominent persons were the only ones that had obits but you never know. Would the Bytown Gazette be the only paper covering Bytown or are there other suggestions? I am looking for the following obits/marriage in lieu of being able to find the death/burial records for this time frame.
William Johnston - Gloucester- I think death Oct 1842 Maybe in Bytown Gazette. Death records should be in St.
Andrew's Presbyterian in Bytown as the South Gloucester log church didn't start regular services until
1845. William had a son in 1841 and was deceased before his father wrote his will in 1844.
William Johnston and Elizabeth Mitchell - marriage - Oct 19, 1837 St.Andrew's Presbyterian in Bytown (want to know
both sets of parents but especially Elizabeth's as I am pretty sure of William's). I do have the marriage
record.
John Johnston - Gloucester - death July or Aug 1845 (will registered Aug 23, 1845) want parents and/or place of birth
and/or date of birth. John was not on 1851 Census for Gloucester Township so definitely dead before
then. John donated some of his land for the original St. Andrew's Presbyterian log church and
graveyard at Johnston's Corners. He was my ggg grandfather.
Any help appreciated.
Peggy
