Aloha all,
Don't take Medical Diagnoses of the early times too seriously. My
great-great grandfather was a physician in Upper Canada in the early 1800s.
I have read the histories of the practice of medicine in that era. To die
of "Bowel Consumption" means they died of something related to the bowel.
Could have been cancer or infection, or even torsion and obstruction. They
did not do autopsies in anything but university teaching centers. Hope this
helps
Len Howard MD

I am thinking perhaps this is a form of
Colitis or bowel cancer or crohn's disease
Many diseases depending on the time period were simply covered by one or two
words
