Ruth Burkholder and I have documented early BMD records in Ontario - in a
little guide that is sold by Global Genealogy but we also ran a series of
articles in the Global Gazette that sets out some of the basic information
in a 4 part series - the main page is at:
http://globalgenealogy.com/globalgazette/List001/list29.htm
The guide is available at:
http://globalgenealogy.com/countries/canada/ontario/general/resources/101304.htm
The article will explain that other marriages besides the Church of England
and Catholic Church were in fact recognized and documented long before 1847.
Please read the articles for more detailed information.
