Iris sent me copies of your messages, and I have some additional information
on your family. Since you've joined the list, I'm sending this to the list so
others (see below) can comment.

We believe Charles Yelton was the son of Edy C. Yelton. Edy C. Yelton first
appears in the 1840 Census for Wilkes County, NC. At that point, there is no
adult male in the household. Edy (possibly short for Edith??) was born about
1808 or 1809 in North Carolina. She died in 1888 in Henderson County, NC and
is buried in Mills River at the Methodist Church Cemetery. Her tombstone
gives her name as Mrs. E. C. Yelton. We don't know who her husband was,
although we have a theory (at this stage, it's more of a guess) which appears
on our web page.

Charles Yelton had one brother, James, and two sisters, Caroline and Nancy.
A descendant of James is also a member of our merry little band and she has
a lot more information on this part of the family. Martha, please add what
you can.

We would welcome any additional clues or information. I had always assumed
that because Charles and Margaret were married in 1856 and Thomas Jefferson
was born in 1862, he was their natural son.
